Small Plane Crashes at London Southend Airport, Killing Four Foreign Nationals
Southend Airport Plane Crashes. London, July 14 (Reuters) – On Sunday, around 4 PM, a sad accident happened at London Southend Airport.
A plane called a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air crashed soon after it took off. There was a huge fireball and lots of thick black smoke. All four people on the plane died, according to Essex Police.

Aircraft Was Bound for Lelystad, Netherlands
The plane, a U.S.-made Beechcraft B200 with the registration number PH-ZAZ, was heading to Lelystad in the Netherlands. It “ran into trouble and crashed inside the airport area,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin of Essex Police.
Reports say the plane never went higher than 175 feet. Then, it suddenly turned sharply left, flipped upside down, and crashed nose-first into the ground. This caused a fiery explosion that many people saw.
Victims Identified as Foreign Nationals
Authorities confirmed that four people from other countries were on the plane. They are believed to be:
- Two pilots from the Netherlands
- Two passengers, with one reportedly being a nurse from Chile
Officials are still working to officially identify the victims and tell their families what happened.
Eyewitnesses Recount the Horror Fireball as Plane Crashes Before Take-Off
A local person named John Johnson described the terrible moment:
“The pilots waved to families just before they took off. It turned sharply, then flipped over and went straight down—like a rock.”
Emergency workers, including Essex Fire & Rescue, air ambulances, and special teams from Orsett, arrived quickly. However, all four people on board were declared dead at the scene.
Nearby places, such as Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club, were emptied for safety.
“There was a big fireball,” said Mr. Johnson, an eyewitness to the plane crash. Before the aircraft attempted to take off, Mr. Johnson and his family waved at the pilots.
“They all waved back at us,” he added, recalling the calm moments just before the incident.
After the crash, the airport’s fire service responded immediately. Two fire engines rushed to the scene, followed closely by local police, ambulance, and fire services.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that it had sent four ambulances and several emergency response vehicles to the site to support rescue efforts.
Local Member of Parliament David Burton-Sampson urged the public to stay away from the crash site to allow emergency crews to do their job effectively.
