Ticketing and Timetables

The Punjab Metro Bus Authority (PMBA) operates the system, while the Punjab IT Board operates the automated system. Since both are part of the same transport system, the timetables of Rawalpindi Metro Buses are identical.

How do I buy a Metro Bus Ticket?
Passengers using public transport in Islamabad need a ticket, token or Metrobus card. These can be purchased or topped up at the ticket counters at various Metrobus stations or at Ticket Machines (TVMs).
To purchase a token at the TVM, select the desired number of tokens, enter the desired amount (PKR 30 per token), and then collect the receipt and token. A Metrobus card, on the other hand, costs around PKR 130. Passengers can return the card for a refund, but only if it is in perfect condition.
Otherwise, the ticket is deducted. Additionally, the remaining balance is displayed when you hold the card at the boarding and alighting points.

Metrobus cards and tokens serve the same purpose. However, the card is more suitable for people who travel to school, university or work every day, as they do not have to queue for a token.

Airport Metrobus Line Update
The construction of the Peshawar Motor Line to Islamabad International Airport is currently underway. The nine bus stops include G-10, NUST, NHA, M1-M2 Junction, Grand Trunk Road, G-1, Badana Kalan and the airport.
The metrobus project includes 12 bridges, 26 culverts and 11 underpasses.
The government assumed that the project would be completed, estimating that commuters who pay PKR 500 to PKR 1,200 for taxis would benefit the most.
The project was initially launched in January 2017 and was to be implemented in four phases:
The first phase involved the completion of the stretch from Kashmir Highway Metro Station to the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
The second phase extended from NUST to Grand Trunk (GT) Road.
The third phase extended from GT Road to the junction.
The final phase included the completion of the metros and bridges.
However, the project had not yet begun as of March 2022.
There is a huge demand for properties near the new Islamabad International Airport, and people are eagerly waiting for the stretch from Kashmir Highway to Islamabad International Airport to be completed so that they can use it.

The Metrobus line was inaugurated today, as the airport line of the capital’s Metrobus system is extended from Kashmir Highway Metro Station to Islamabad International Airport as originally planned.
This will significantly improve the airport’s connectivity to many important areas of the city and ease daily commute.
A shuttle bus will connect Kashmir Highway Metro Station, the starting point of the route, to various parts of the capital.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) completed work on a 27-kilometer stretch of the new Metrobus line last year at a cost of PKR 16 billion.
The procurement of 30 new buses for the Peshawar Mor–Islamabad Airport BRT line is underway.
The Capital Mass Transit Authority (CMTA) will also be established to oversee the operation of the Metrobus line in Islamabad. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will directly manage and control the CMTA once it is established.
Expansion of the Metrobus Network : Metro Bus Islamabad Route
Like the Lahore Metrobus stations, the Islamabad and Rawalpindi Metrobus systems have been expanded in the past, and further expansions are planned. In 2018, two more stations were added to extend the route from Saddar in Rawalpindi to the
Pakistan Secretariat in Islamabad.
The system initially consisted of 24 stations. The two new stations were Faizabad and Peshawar Mor, and the expansion added 5.6 kilometers to the route.
In addition, there are plans to expand the Metrobus network to the outskirts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
In addition to connecting more communities to the system, the planned expansions will increase the number of stations along the existing route.
The expansions are intended to improve connectivity and accessibility, as well as facilitate mobility between the different areas of the twin cities.
Although the timetable and details of the planned expansions have not yet been announced, they are expected to come into effect soon.
